Overview

Explosion Proof exit signs are available in Class 1 division 1 and Class 1 division 2 conditions. Designed for hazardous locations that produce combustible gases and vapors, these fixtures have airtight housings to protect internal circuitry, which pose a sparking hazard that could cause an explosion. Hence the name 'explosion proof.'

Divisions refer to the likelihood of such gases being present in day-to-day operations. Division 1 is the most serious environment, as these gases are always present. Division 2 areas don't usually contain flammable agents, though sudden introduction could occur at any time.
