Overview

NFPA 101 and UL guidelines stipulate 90 minutes as the minimum allotted time for a most buildings to vacate after a power failure occurs. Emergency lights and exit signs must provide at least 90 minutes of emergency illumination when running of their internal battery.

However many facilities require a much longer running emergency lighting setup, including nursing homes where tenants may be sleeping during an emergency, requiring a superintendent or fire official to check each room for missing occupants.

Features

18 hour emergency lights come standard with the following:

  • 1000 + minutes of emergency illumination
  • 20 gauge steel housing
  • Bright Par36 lamps
  • Easy push-button diagnostic switch
  • UL 924 Listed

Application

Eighteen hour emergency lights can be used in the following environments:

  • Large processing and manufacturing sites
  • Buildings with a history of rolling blackouts
  • Hotels and apartment complexes
  • Dormitories

External

18 hour emergency lights have a 20-gauge steel housing with a baked enamel powder-coated finish to prevent corrosion. Standard finish is white but you may request almost any primary color you wish. Call for availability.

Steel emergency lights offer a degree of protection from outside damage and weather which might harm the internal circuitry. It is actually illegal in certain cities to use anything but steel fixtures.

Internal

  • Consumes 120/277v AC electricity during non-emergencies.
  • Solid state charging circuitry
  • Low voltage disconnect
  • AC lockout and brownout protection

Custom voltages are available, just specify when ordering. You can change them at will by swapping out the lamps and circuitry.

Lamp Specifications

Dual Par36 style, 9-watt lamp are made of high impact thermoplastic. They are fully adjustable and may be side or top mounted. Make sure to specify your preference when placing an order.

18 hour fixtures can be modified to provide illumination for large and small spaces. Other wattages may be selected including 12, 18, 25, 30, 35, 55, and even 70-watt lamp heads.

Battery

18 hour emergency lights use 12-volt, 150-watt sealed lead-acid battery backup unit. It has a temperature threshold of 122° F and will last between 3-5 years.

Higher voltage batteries may be utilized for brighter lamps or power an additional remote head.

Options

Self-testing - this feature monitors the battery backup and circuitry and will eliminate the need for monthly light tests. However you will still need to inspect and clean the unit once a year.

Time-Delay -Necessary for locations that use HID lighting such as sodium vapor or metal halide lights. HIDs require 15 minutes to reach full intensity even after short blackouts. This feature will keep the unit running during this warm-up time after power returns.
