Overview

Emergency lighting fixtures typically found inside are usually made from lightweight thermoplastic, with dual lamp heads that produce between 5 and 9 watts. Some interiors, however, require stronger lighting and sturdier construction to withstand moderate abuse.

Heavy duty emergency lights are perfect for such areas, with a hardened steel cabinet and powerful flood lamps that produce almost seven times that of thermoplastic models. Steel emergency lights are the standard in Chicago and New York City where emergency lighting laws are the strictest in the country.

Lamp Specifications

Two adjustable 35-watt halogen lamp heads produce more than 400 lumens of illumination and are standard with waterproof and steel heavy duty emergency lights. A number of other lamps may also be selected.

Choosing a higher lamp wattage will illuminate a larger area which can allow one unit to substitute two lower wattage units. Conversely, using less intense spotlights will extend the unit's battery life.

Battery

6-volt, 72-watt sealed lead acid batteries come standard on heavy duty fixtures. It usually takes a full day to recharge SLA batteries, which have a shelf-life of 3 to 5 years. The highest temperature they can operate in is 122° F.

Options

Self-testing - A great way to eliminate the physical necessity of monthly and yearly lighting tests. This function monitors the lamps, circuit board and battery for optimal efficiency and alerts you when there is a discrepancy.

Time-Delay - Allows 15 more minutes of emergency illumination after power is restored. For locations that us HID fixtures in their general lighting, which can take 15 minutes to reach full intensity.

Nickel Cadmium Battery - NiCads are easier to replace, last between 5-7 years and reduce the overall shipping weight of the unit.
